Steven Halliday - Warringtonfire

General Manager Testing - Australia

Steven Halliday is the General Manager of testing at Warringtonfire’s Melbourne laboratory where he has worked for almost a decade. Steven has been involved in a huge number of fire resistance and reaction to fire tests as well as the development of test methods. This includes numerous bushfire tests across all revisions of the Australian Standards AS 3959, AS 1530.8.1 and AS 1530.8.2. Steven has a Bachelor of Mechanical and Space Engineering from UQ.


Omar Saad - Warringtonfire

Fire Assessment Manager

Omar has been with Warringtonfire for six years and manages a team of fire assessment engineers across multiple state offices.  Previously Omar worked in the fire services and construction industry and is a qualified engineer.



Boris Iskra - Forest & Wood Products Australia

National Manager, Codes and Standards

Boris Iskra is Forest & Wood Products Australia’s (FWPA’s) representative on Standards Australia’s technical timber committees as well as several built environment committees; including FP-020 Construction in bushfire prone areas.  He co-ordinates FWPA’s research activities in support of these standards activities and has undertaken testing in accordance with the AS 1530.8 suite of standards.  

 Boris has an extensive understanding of the Australian forest and wood products sector with over 30 years of direct involvement, and holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Structural) degree and a Graduate Diploma in Building Fire Safety and Risk Engineering.



Maria KornakovaFire Protection Association Australia (FPA Australia)

Manager Bushfire Services 

Dr Maria Kornakova is a Manager Bushfire Services at the FPA Australia. Maria successfully completed PhD at the University of Melbourne and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Melbourne and Massey University, NZ. The key focus of her research and professional interest is bushfire risk reduction practices through building, planning and architecture. Maria transferred to the industry to practically apply skills and knowledge gained over the years of her academic career and joined FPA Australia in December 2018.
