The control and management of fire and smoke within a building during a fire is very important for the life safety of occupants, while they are evacuating from a building. Fire curtains are frequently used to form part of a buildings' smoke hazard management system. The approval of these systems are typically via use of Performance Solutions.

Fire curtains allow owners and tenants to utilise and develop architectural spaces whilst still complying with BCA requirements.  They are similar to a Fire Shutter and protect openings by deploying and creating a full barrier covering an opening and creating a fire compartment. There are however many differences between a Fire Shutter and Fire Curtain and these need to be understood for correct use of a Fire Curtain in buildings.

Fire curtains can assist with minimising an occupant’s exposure to the effects of a fire while they are evacuating the building.  Therefore, it is essential that these operate and perform correctly, when required.

Fire curtains are often misunderstood and are usually the first to blame when they do not operate or perform as they are required to.  When very often the reason is the adverse impact of other building systems, building/architectural features or furnishings on the fire curtains that create the problem.

This webinar will provide information on:

  • The different types of fire curtains and how they operate;
  • How they interface with other building services
  • Architectural interfacing, design and specification
  • Fire and Smoke Performance Testing and Certification
  • The impact of building features that adversely affect the performance of fire curtains

This webinar is aimed at improving your understanding of the key operational and performance requirements/criteria of fire curtains.  If you engineer, design, approve or service fire curtains you will find this webinar very informative.
