AS 1851 Routine Service of Fire Protection Systems and Equipment

The Australian Standard for routine service of fire protection systems and equipment, AS 1851 prescribes the methodology and activities used to maintain the reliability of fire protection systems and equipment; such that they continue to meet the requirements of the approved design and are likely to do so until the next scheduled activity.

AS 1851 and its scheduled service activities are extensively used throughout Australia, except where the use of AS 1851 is not mandatory.

As a part of FPA Australia continuing objective to provide more information and education material to the industry throughout all parts of Australia, FPA Australia is starting a trial of providing training webinars based on the AS 1851 routine service methodologies and activities.

This technical/training webinar is predominately based on the routine service activities for:

The monthly routine service of Fire Detection and Alarm Systems.

This training webinar will include:

  • Legislation & Code - why we have FDAS, special hazard systems and smoke hazard management systems;
  • Legislation - where AS 1851 is mandatory or recommended;
  • The purpose of a fire detection system;
  • An explanation of Clause 6.1 requirements;
  • An explanation of Clause 6.2 requirements;
  • An explanation of Clause 6.3 requirements; and
  • An explanation of how to carry out the routine service items in Table 6.4.1.2 in Clause 6.4.

Do you carry out routine service of these? Do you engage service contractors to service these systems? Do you wonder why all of these activities are necessary? Why the service technician needs to obtain access to certain parts of your building. If you have questions in relation to these points, are unsure of key requirements or wish to improve your knowledge, then you should find this technical/training webinar to be very informative. It will provide information and advice on the important points detailed above.

Questions and Answers

This webinar will also include the opportunity towards the end for attendees to pose questions to the presenter, by using the Q&A function in Zoom.

Important Note: Due to time limitations and the potential number of questions asked, the presenter may not have time to answer all questions.
