What you should know and check for!

While not a life safety system that impacts on the effects of a fire, an Occupant Warning System (OWS) is a critical system—and the only system—that alerts occupants of a fire event within a building.

To be most effective, the operation and performance of an OWS should be in conjunction and in relation to the building's emergency evacuation plan.

The structure and type of OWS typically consists of many different components and can consist of a combination of different OWS systems. Over the last 5 years these requirements in the AS 1670 series have changed.

If you approve, design, install, certify, inspect, test or assess Fire Detection and Alarm Systems within buildings, are you aware of:

  • When the NCC requires occupant warning systems within a building;
  • What type of occupant warning system is required;
  • What are Grade 1, 2 and 3 amplified sound systems;
  • The transition to AS 4428.16 Grade 2 and 3 amplified sound systems;
  • When is the alert signal required, when is the evacuate signals required;
  • OWS used for staged evacuation;
  • OWS circuit limitations;
  • Evacuation signals in Class 9a and Class 9c buildings; and
  • What are the limitations of the evacuation signal under the referenced ISO 8201

This webinar will also provide:

  • An update of AS 1670.6 (System design, installation and commissioning - smoke alarms); and
  • An opportunity for you to ask Fire Detection and Alarm Systems questions to the presenter.

If you have questions in relation to these points, are unsure of key requirements or wish to improve your knowledge, then you should find this webinar to be very informative. It will provide information and advice on the important points detailed above.

Questions and Answers

This webinar will also include the opportunity towards the end for attendees to pose questions to the presenter, by using the chat function in Zoom. These questions do not have to be specifically related to the webinar topic.

Important Note: Due to time limitations and the potential number of questions asked, the presenter may not have time to answer all questions.
