This event is part of "Confirming Operational Performance" series, aimed at improving understanding regarding the key operational performance criteria of smoke hazard management systems and equipment that should be identified and considered, to determine if the expected system performance is being achieved.

The focus of this event is on:

  • Mechanical air handling systems (pressurisation, zone smoke control, smoke exhaust and purge systems)
  • Fire dampers, smoke dampers
  • Smoke & heat vents

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Attendees will gain a basic understanding of combustion smoke, heat, life safety and safe egress path objectives.
  • Brief overview of legislation, codes, standards, industry guidance hierarchy.
  • Basic understanding of the fundamentals of exit pressurisation, zone pressurisation, smoke exhaust and air purge types, equipment and how they interface with other fire protection systems.
  • What should be considered at commissioning stage to determine expected level of performance is being achieved.
  • What the key routine service activities are that indicate operational system performance.
  • What the critical performance criteria are that should be considered as part of an annual assessment.
